AnswersQuestions students ask

Study Abroad — FAQ

What IELTS band do I need to study abroad?

Most universities ask for an overall band between 6.0 and 7.0, often with no section below 5.5 or 6.0. Undergraduate courses usually sit at the lower end and postgraduate courses at the higher end. Every university publishes its own requirement — check the course page, and message us if you want help reading it.

Do I need IELTS Academic or General Training to study abroad?

IELTS Academic. General Training is for work and migration routes, not for university admission.

How early should I start preparing?

Start 9–12 months before your intended intake: check requirements and deadlines, then prepare for and sit IELTS 3–6 months before you apply, so your score is ready when applications open. Our IELTS Master Course takes 2.5 months.

How long is an IELTS score valid?

Two years from the test date. Plan your test so the score is still valid when your course begins.

Can I study abroad without IELTS?

Some universities accept alternatives such as TOEFL, PTE Academic, the Duolingo English Test, or proof that your previous degree was taught in English. Many still prefer or require IELTS, and visa routes can have their own English rules — so confirm with the university before you rely on an alternative.

Does BayRen help with applications and student visas?

Student immigration support is part of what BayRen does alongside IELTS preparation. Message us with your destination and course level and we will explain the steps, the documents usually needed and an honest view of your timeline. Final decisions always rest with the university and the immigration authority.

What is IELTS for UKVI?

A version of the same test taken at a centre approved by UK Visas and Immigration. Some UK visa routes and pre-sessional English courses require it; many degree courses accept the standard IELTS Academic. Check which one your university and visa route ask for before booking.

Planning to work or settle abroad instead?

Work and family routes use different English tests and different rules. We explain them honestly on the student immigration page.
