Search “best IELTS coaching in Dhaka” and every result says it is the best. None of them can prove it, and neither can we. So here is something more useful: the nine questions that actually separate a good course from an expensive one — and, at the bottom, our own answers to all nine, so you can hold us to the same standard.
Why every centre says it is the best
Because saying it is free. There is no independent ranking of IELTS coaching centres in Bangladesh — no regulator publishes results, no body audits the band scores anyone claims. A centre can say "95% success rate" and nobody can check it, including us. So a list of "top 10 IELTS centres in Dhaka" tells you which centre wrote the list, and nothing else.
What you can check is how a centre answers a direct question. Below are nine that are hard to answer vaguely. Ask them on WhatsApp, before you pay. The answers, and how willingly they come, will tell you more than any review page.
The nine questions
1. How many students are in one batch?
This is the single number that decides whether a course is teaching or broadcasting. In a batch of forty, your Writing does not get read and your Speaking does not get heard — you are watching a lecture you could watch on YouTube. Ask for the real number, not the maximum. If the answer is a range, ask what last month's batch was.
2. Who marks my Writing, and how quickly does it come back?
Writing is where most Bangladeshi students lose their half band, and it is the only skill you genuinely cannot fix alone: you cannot see your own errors, which is why they are still there. A course where essays go in and a band comes back with no marked-up script is not teaching Writing. Ask to see an example of marked feedback — a real one, with a real student's name removed.
3. Is Speaking practised one-to-one, or in a group?
Speaking Part 2 is you talking alone for two minutes while somebody listens and judges. If you have never done that with a person, the exam room is the first time — and the first time is always the worst time. Find out how many one-to-one speaking sessions you actually get, by number.
4. How many full mock tests are included, and are they marked?
A mock test that is not marked by a person is a timer, not a mock. Ask how many are included in the fee, whether they are computer-based (which is what most test centres now use), and whether a human being reads your Writing and gives you a band with reasons.
5. What is the total cost, including everything?
Ask specifically: is the material included? Are mock tests extra? Is there a registration fee? What does it cost to repeat the batch if I am not ready? A course advertised at 6,000 taka with 4,000 taka of extras is a 10,000 taka course, and you should compare it as one.
6. Can I see the syllabus — week by week?
A real course knows what happens in class 14. A centre that cannot show you a week-by- week plan is deciding the lesson on the morning it happens. You are entitled to see it before you pay.
7. Who is teaching, and what have they actually done?
Ask about the person who will stand in front of your batch, not the founder. Have they sat the IELTS themselves? Have they taught it before? A teacher who has never taken the test is teaching a map of a place they have not visited.
8. What happens if I miss a class?
You will miss one. Traffic, illness, a wedding, work. Is there a recording? A catch-up session? Nothing? The answer tells you how the course thinks about the student rather than the schedule.
9. What is your average band improvement, and how do you know?
This is the question that separates a course from a claim. The honest answer is a method, not a number: "we test you at the start, we mock you twice, and here is the spread we usually see." A centre that answers with a single impressive percentage and no explanation of where it came from has made it up.
What a course actually costs in Bangladesh
Full group IELTS programmes in Dhaka generally sit somewhere between about ৳8,000 and ৳20,000, with one-to-one and intensive formats above that. Treat those as ranges to confirm rather than as fixed figures — centres change fees, run seasonal offers and quote differently for morning and evening batches.
What the number does not tell you is the cost per hour of a teacher's attention. Two courses at 12,000 taka are not the same course if one has twelve students and the other has forty-five. Divide the fee by the number of times a teacher will look at your work, and the cheap course is often the expensive one.
The exam itself is separate and is paid to the test centre — the British Council or IDP — not to a coaching centre. Check their sites for the current fee; it changes, and no coaching centre controls it.
Three things that are not worth paying for
- A "guaranteed band". Nobody can guarantee your performance on a day you have not had yet. Read what the guarantee actually says — it is usually a free re-batch, which is a refund policy wearing a costume.
- A huge library of "practice materials". Volume is not the problem. A student who does 500 unmarked questions learns their mistakes 500 times. Marked work beats material every time.
- Celebrity teachers you will never meet. Find out who takes your batch.
Where offline still wins — and where it does not
An in-person class has one real advantage: it is harder to skip. If you know you will not sit down on your own, a room and a fixed time is worth paying for, and BayRen offers offline classes for exactly that reason.

One more thing, which is unusual enough to be worth saying plainly: you can try our teaching before you pay us anything. A five-minute way to shortlist
- Message three centres on WhatsApp with questions 1, 2 and 5.
- Note how long each takes to reply, and whether the answer is a number or a slogan.
- Ask each one for a marked Writing sample. Two will not have one.
- Take the free level test so you know your actual starting band before anyone quotes you.
- Choose the course whose answers were specific, not the one whose poster was biggest.

Questions people ask
How much does IELTS coaching cost in Dhaka?
Group courses in Bangladesh generally run somewhere between about 8,000 and 20,000 taka for a full programme, and one-to-one costs more. Fees change, so confirm the current figure with any centre before you rely on it. Is online IELTS coaching as good as offline?
For most students, yes — and for students outside Dhaka it is usually better, because the alternative is a long commute or no course at all. What matters is not the room; it is whether a teacher reads your writing, hears you speak and tells you what to change. A large online class with no marking is worse than a small offline one, and a small online class with real feedback is better than a crowded hall.
How long does IELTS preparation take?
Two to three months of consistent, guided work is the honest answer for most students who already have reasonable English and want to move half a band to a full band. If English itself is the problem rather than exam technique, add time for that first — no amount of test strategy fixes a foundation that is not there.
Should I pay before or after a trial class?
Ask for a trial or at least a level assessment before paying anything, and be careful of any centre that will not give you one. You are buying a teacher's attention for two or three months; you should hear them teach first.
Does a coaching centre guarantee a band score?
No honest one does. A band score depends on your starting level, the hours you put in and the day itself. Any centre offering a guaranteed band is selling something. What a good centre can promise is a measured starting point, a plan, real marking and mock tests under exam conditions.
