Most comparisons of these three routes are lists of numbers that were true when they were written. Rules change; the shape of each route does not. Here is how the three actually differ, what English each expects of you, and the order to do things in — with every rule question pointed at the government that owns it.
Before anything: where the truth lives
Student visa rules for all three countries change, sometimes with little notice, and they have changed more than once in the last two years. So the most useful thing this page can do is tell you where the authoritative answer is, and then explain the parts that do not change.
| Country | The only source that is definitive |
|---|---|
| United Kingdom | The UK government's visas and immigration pages, plus your university's own admissions page. |
| Canada | IRCC (Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada), plus the provincial requirements for your institution. |
| Australia | The Department of Home Affairs, plus your university's admissions page. |
If a Facebook post, an agent, or this page disagrees with one of those, the government is right. BayRen is an English language school, not a visa consultancy — we are telling you what we know and pointing at who owns the rest.
How the three routes differ in shape
Numbers change; structure is stable. These are the differences that have held for years and that actually affect how you plan.
The United Kingdom
The shortest route in calendar time, and the one with the tightest coupling between university and visa: you generally need an offer and a sponsorship reference from a licensed institution before the visa application makes sense at all. Master's degrees are commonly one year, which is why it is popular with students who want to finish quickly and why the total cost can compare well despite high headline tuition.
The English trap here is specific. Some routes and most pre-sessional English courses require IELTS for UKVI — the same test, taken at an approved centre and booked as a different product. Many degree courses accept standard IELTS Academic. You must read both your university's page and the visa page, and if they appear to disagree, ask admissions in writing and keep the reply.
Canada
The route with the most complexity outside the visa itself: your institution and your province both matter, and requirements have moved in recent years. It is also the route most often chosen with an eye on staying afterwards, which is why so many Bangladeshi applicants ask about IELTS General Training and CLB levels at the same time as their student visa.
Keep those two separate in your head, because they need different tests. Study permits generally rest on IELTS Academic for admission; permanent residence through Express Entry uses General Training. We have written the conversion table and what it means in IELTS for Canada PR.
Australia
Structurally the most straightforward of the three for a student with a clean profile and a clear plan, and the one where the coherence of your story matters most: why this course, why this institution, why now, and how it fits what you have already studied. A weak answer to "why this course" is a real risk here in a way it is less so elsewhere.
Australian universities and the visa route both set English requirements, and courses in health, education and law commonly ask for more than the general minimum.
The two English requirements
This catches people every year, so it is worth stating on its own.
There are usually two English requirements in play, and they are set by different organisations:
- The university's admission requirement, set by the institution, and often different course by course within the same university.
- The visa route's English requirement, set by the government.
They are frequently different, and the higher one governs. A student who trains for a 6.0 because the visa page said 6.0, and then finds their course wants 6.5 with nothing below 6.0, has bought an exam sitting they cannot use.
And read the per-section small print in both. Nearly every offer carries a line like "no section below 5.5" or "no section below 6.0". An overall 6.5 with a 5.0 in Writing is a rejection, and it is the most common way a technically adequate score fails. Our band requirements guide goes through the ranges the three destinations typically ask for.
The order to do things in
Most of the pain in these applications is scheduling, not rules. Things expire, and they expire in an order that catches people out.
- Choose the course first, not the country. The course page carries the English requirement, the tuition and the entry criteria. Everything downstream depends on it.
- Read both English requirements — the course's and the visa's — and write down the higher one, including the per-section minimum.
- Find out where you actually are. The free level test takes five minutes; a marked mock takes an afternoon and is far more accurate.
- Prepare, then sit the test — with a month spare. Build in room for one retake. Students who book the exam to a deadline rather than to their readiness usually pay twice.
- Apply, and mind the two-year clock. IELTS results are valid for two years. If your process is long, the result must still be valid at the point it is assessed, not merely when you first submit.
Note where the English sits in that list: near the beginning, because it is the item with the longest lead time and the only one you cannot buy your way past. Everything else is paperwork and money. The band is the part that takes months.
Four mistakes that are made every year
- Booking IELTS before reading the course page. Academic or General Training, standard or UKVI — get this wrong and the result is unusable. See Academic vs General Training.
- Trusting an agency's summary over the government's page. Agencies are not always wrong, but they are not liable for being wrong, and their pages are often months out of date. Read the source.
- Applying to one country only. The requirements overlap heavily — the same IELTS result usually works across all three for admission purposes — so narrowing early gains you very little and costs you options.
- Underestimating the English timeline. Moving half a band takes most students two to three months of guided work, and moving a full band takes longer. Starting the English three weeks before the deadline is the single most common reason a good application does not happen at all.
Where BayRen fits
Narrowly and honestly: we are the English part. The IELTS Master Course is ৳10,500 for 2.5 months with 30 live classes, 8 support sessions and 5 marked mock tests, and the six practice apps are free if you would rather start on your own.
Our immigration page sets out what support we offer beyond that. For the visa application itself, use the government sites named at the top of this page or a licensed consultant, and keep a written record of every requirement you are told about. If a requirement is only ever told to you verbally, treat that as information about the person telling you.

Questions people ask
Which country is easiest to get a student visa for from Bangladesh?
There is no honest answer to this, and anybody who gives you one confidently is selling something. Requirements and processing change, and outcomes depend far more on your own profile — grades, finances, course choice and how well the application is put together — than on the country. Choose on the course and the cost, not on a rumour about which embassy is easier.
What IELTS score do I need for a student visa?
Two different numbers can apply: the university's requirement for admission, and the visa route's own English requirement. They are not always the same, and the higher one governs. Read both pages — your course page and the official visa page — before booking the test.
Do I need IELTS UKVI for the UK?
It depends on the route and the course. Some routes and pre-sessional English courses require IELTS for UKVI, which is the same test taken at an approved centre; many degree courses accept standard IELTS Academic. Check the university's page and the UK government's visa page — and if they disagree, ask the university admissions office in writing.
How early should I sit IELTS?
Early enough that a retake is possible, and late enough that the result is still valid at the point it is assessed. IELTS results are valid for two years. Working backwards from your intake with a spare month for a second attempt is the safest plan.
Can BayRen apply for my visa?
No. We are an English language school. We get you the IELTS band your course and your visa route ask for. For the application itself use the official government sites or a licensed consultant.
